Bali, Indonesia

A copy of my travel journal written during a wonderful holiday in early February 2004.
There are several photo galleries, they’re linked from the bottom of this page.

Introduction
Background, brickbats, burnout, and Bali.

Day 1, January 31
Featuring less than optimal sleep, a stress free departure. Over zealous Australian customs agents. And our wonderful hotel.

Day 2, February 1
In which we wander around Kuta, get hassled by touts, enjoy some serious culture shock, and stuff ourselves on a really great dinner.

Day 3, February 2
Hating the coffee, loving the water park (Waterbom rules!), being underwhelmed by our dinner.

Day 4, February 3
Monkeys, temples, culture, snakes. A really big day.

Day 5, February 4
Off to Denpasar where we met durian donuts, scammers, monster markets and a museum.

Day 6, February 5
Seminyak, Legian, Pocari Sweat, and some seriously nice dinner at a lovely place called Nero Cafe.

Day 7, February 6
Cute Japanese girls, Ubud, and more monkeys than you can shake a stick at! (Also boring markets, and a pretty over-rated town.)

Day 8, February 7
Luxury. Luxury. Luxury. And martinis.

Day 9, February 8
DVDs, moving to a seriously amazing hotel in Nusa Dua (really Tanjung Benoa, but whatever), fine food, and great cigars (and maybe a little cognac, and champagne, and bacardi).

Day 10, February 9
Big breakfasts, bumped heads, another monkey(!), and a menagerie of other weird and wonderful beasties – you can touch, but no eating!

Day 11ish, February 10
A very relaxing day (which dragged on into a shifting nightmare of timezones and no sleep.)
